17s Rnd 5 Roleystone v's Kelmscott @ Springdale PDF Print E-mail

On an overcast day with a chill in the wind, Tigers hosted Kelmscott.  It was the top of the table clash and sure to be a ripper of a game.

It was Kelmscott that got the 1st 6 points - we needed to man up and settle the game down.  A 50 meter penalty helped us post out first goal, but Kelmscott got it back soon after.  We were failing across our centre half area and we needed to hold our tackles.  Ryan was holding his own in the back line, but Kelmscott were holding marks and kicking straight.  An injury to Cody saw him come off with a rolled ankle.  They were throwing themselves on the footy, we needed to apply more pressure.

The 2nd quarter saw us get more of the ball and work harder for possession, but Kelmcott were relentless - hard to the ball, sticking the marks and accurate in front of goals.  We were running but not fast enough and we were getting caught behind the man too often.  We needed to lift and apply more pressure.

At half time we were 59 points down but we could get some of that back by lifting the work rate.

In the 3rd the rain came down but it didnt hold Kelmscott up - they had 3 goals on the board before we moved it forward to Ben C and he kicked his second 6 points.  Chris popped up and kicked another goal after a hard struggle from the centre, but Kelmscott had the game - we needed to save face.  Unfortunately Kelmscott legs didnt tire and their pressure was intense.  A Bad loss for the Tigers
