Round 7 was a triple celebration with MICHAEL S celebrating his 150 games and BRANDON PAPALIA celebrating his 50 games. CONGRATULATIONS to the boys and well done to Michael - 150 games is a great achievement!
Cockburn got the first score - a soccer goal off the ground but we hit straight back with Michael kicking a great goal against the wind. Our backs were under pressure early but they persevered and Cockburn had to find the spaces out wide to deliver the ball inboard. We needed to hold our marks and apply more pressure. From advantage free kick, Brandon kicked a great goal - now only 6 points in it. Matt took a fantastic juggling mark - 3,4 grabs and then held it - Worthy of mark of the year!
In the second we found it hard to get the ball out of their forward area, 4 shots on goal and they finally popped through the 6 pointer. A marks we should have spoilt gave them another goal. Frustration started to set in with the umpires over looking some push and shove, we succumbed to their pressure and wcouldnt work the ball forward. They were using the back door very well and keeping the ball in the forward arc. 13 to 2 inside 50's told the story of the second quarter.
In the 3rd Tigers looked sluggish but a good chase by Monty turned the ball over and we scored 6 points. At the next bounce we kept possession and Chris kicked another goal. The umpires were a bit inconsistent making it hard to get some free possessions - we could rund with Cockburn but the elbows behind play took their toll - yellow cards to 2 of our boys yet Cockburn were the ones throwing them.
We need to find something a week off may help.
